My wife bought us tickets to Denver in the last weeks of January, because Minneapolis to Denver flights are dumb cheap in January.

Kinja'd!!!

Are there any car museums, or collections to check out in or around Denver? We’ll be spending at least half a day at the Denver Muesem if Nature and Science because Jonah will love it, but I’d like to check out some car/ transportation stuff too. Any first hand experience suggestions?

For a goodly search Forney Museum of Transportation looks cool, but Vehicle Vault looks even better for a car specific place.

Also I’m going to try to drive up Mt. Evens again which is a stupid thing to try to do in January. I plan on at least getting an AWD car this time.

Neat. Jonah would like that. He still seems to think that every Mustang with two white stripes is a Shelby.

Do the Shelby museum in Boulder, and Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum in Denver.

I haven’t been to Vehicle Vault, but I can vouch for the Forney Museum being highly worthwhile.  The Denver Muesem of Nature and Science is also very good.

since you’re going to the DMNS, look for the gnomes, my kids love doing that, and they already know where they all are :D

and theres a very good view from the roof, that not everyone knows is an option.

There is also the Clive Cussler car museum. If youve read any Dirk Pitt series novel (Sahara, etc.) theres always an old car from pre war eras somewhere within. Well they are all for real and in his museum. Its south of Broomfield, south east of Boulder, $15. And if you like your Dusenbergs, Marmons and Auburns/ Cords, pierce arrow, stutz, plus a whole string of 50s cars and bewinged Caddys, this is your place. Dad loved it.

For this place check the times, may only be open on saturdays. For the wife,  its down the street from Celestial seasonings HQ and their tour is pretty good. The Peppermint room will clear the sinuses real good.

The Forney Muesum of Transportation is fantastic, the Cussler museum has quite the collection of cars too. If you’re into trains, The Colorado RailRoad Museum in Golden is also pretty nice, but it’s mostly outdoor.

Mt Evans is closed for the season.

The Vehicle Vault is good but there are only a couple dozen cars on display. It’s kind of an event venue first and museum second.

People have mentioned Wings over the Rockies and the Forney. There’s also the Cussler museum but I think that closes during the winter, unfortunately.

The Shelby museum is great too, last time I was there in the spring they had one of the Daytona coupes out. I’m sure it’s still there. Keep in mind that it is only open on Saturdays.

There’s a train museum in Golden if you’re into that. Everything is outside so it’s kind of weather dependent but a good stop nonetheless.

Mt Evans closes but Pikes peak is open year round I think

Definitely voting for the Forney museum and Wings Over the Rockies if you get the chance.

its 10 minutes from my house. i second this place. It’s a quick tour though, not as big as you would think, but it’s got so much packed in there!

mt evans closes the top portion, so you have to stop at the second lake, drivingwise

Shelby museum in Boulder.

Sidenote: It was one of the last places Chris Watts took his mistress before killing his family.
